Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome that causes pain in connective tissues and muscles. It is a disease that is common, especially in women between the ages of 20 to 60.
We received a beautifully described review from Daphne, who has this disease. Despite not being able to believe that something as simple as grounding would help her, she started grounding thanks to her friend Maja.
“My dear friend Maja gave me this mat for my birthday after telling me years ago about the success of all these products on her life. But I just couldn't believe that! Now finally after all these years I crossed over because I was tired of always having that pain again.”
The symptoms can be many: muscle pain, muscle stiffness, fatigue, sleep disturbances, headaches, anxiety, depression, allergies, concentration and memory problems, temperature increases and intestinal complaints.
No single cause has yet been found for fibromyalgia. Normal blood tests and in conjunction with the person's usually healthy appearance also often fail to recognize the syndrome.
Know that grounding helps reduce or eliminate pain.
In fact, when one experiences pain, it means that an inflammatory response is taking place. The immune system is activated and free radicals help clear the inflammation.
When the inflammation is cleared away, the body needs to have enough electrons (from food in the form of antioxidants and electrons from the earth) to help it to clean up the excess free radicals.
If there are insufficient electrons in the body, free radicals attack healthy tissue: they are looking for electrons to neutralize themselves. This process can degenerate into a chronic inflammatory disease, such as fibromyalgia.
With physical contact with the earth - grounding - you absorb electrons into your body and help strengthen your own immune system. Inflammatory reactions are cleared much faster.
This is the experience Daphne describes below:
Spent 3 hours on it the first evening. All points of the fibromyalgia (which I have) took turns hurting. It was like a Reiki treatment! “I had an acute sciatica for 3 months which caused me a lot of pain first I couldn't walk and now on the mend but still pain. After this first evening the pain disappeared ! Next day the same thing happened again. But I could sleep almost pain free for the first time because of the sciatica that seemed to go away and all the pains of the fibromyalgia that are always there and come and go.”
Once you start grounding, the electrical conduction or voltage in your body changes. The natural state of all cells restores, allowing nutrients to be better absorbed.
Sometimes pain can become more intense at first. Because in addition to nutrients being better absorbed, waste products can be better disposed of.
Waste products enter the bloodstream and sometimes make symptoms more severe. In itself, this is a positive reaction because the process of grounding is initiated. This is a habituation process and how long it takes to get used to it depends on each person: what complaints does someone experience, and how long have the complaints existed.
With Daphne, the pain from the fibromyalgia first got worse and then went away. The effect of grounding lasts for a while after you stop grounding. Our advice is to stay grounded every day or night during the habituation process so that you don't have to go through the habituation process over and over again. Exactly what Daphne sensed:
“Now two weeks later I am still sitting on the mat every night for 3 to 4 hours. I can walk long distances again, but I am still afraid it will come back. And the pain in my wrists, shoulders knees back seem to have disappeared! Occasionally come back slightly but then soon back on the mat and the pain disappears!”
With grounding, the nervous system immediately gets the signal to relax.
With grounding, circulation improves and this can be experienced as a slight tingling sensation that occurs after about 10 minutes. Oxygen intake improves at the same time and one may feel warmer. A common improvement with grounding is that people suffer less from cold feet.
“When I sit on the mat sometimes my back can get all warm as if I were sitting on an electric blanket.In addition, I feel more and more relaxed as if I have been meditating! I still find it incredible myself and soon I am afraid of the cold then I always have much more complaints. But I will persevere with this mat! When I have more money I also want a mat in bed, it is a world of difference! And it works! I can recommend it to everyone (...)”
When someone has been suffering for a long time, has already done a lot to remove the suffering, confidence in a real solution may be affected.
That something as simple as earthing or grounding, even if it's been around all our lives (and feet😉 ) supports health, we may create more awareness in that.
